Snæfellsnes tours from Reykjavik: which one to book

Every day tour does roughly the same loop of the peninsula. They differ in group size, how long they give Arnarstapi, and whether lunch is included. Here is how to choose.

How to choose in one minute

  • Cheapest way to see it all? The coach: same stops, more people.
  • Want time to walk in Arnarstapi? Troll (1 hour) or Arctic Adventures (50 minutes); most others give it 30.
  • Seals matter to you? Troll gives Ytri Tunga 40 minutes; Arctic Adventures drops it in December and January.
  • Travelling in a group of four or more? Price a private tour, or rent a car: see the self-drive calculator.

What’s included, and what isn’t

Every listing here includes a driver-guide and the transport; most include pickup in Reykjavik, some only from central bus stops. Food is the main difference: only two include a meal. The others stop for lunch, typically 45 minutes in Ólafsvík, where you buy your own, so bring snacks and water for a long day. Most have Wi-Fi on board.

Cancellations

All the tours below can be cancelled free of charge up to 24 hours before the start, and reserved now with payment later. If the weather closes roads, operators reroute or cancel; a cancelled tour is refunded.

How the day runs

The loop, stop by stop

The order most tours follow. A few run it the other way round, south coast first.

  1. About 08:00

    Pickup in Reykjavik

Hotel or numbered bus stop. Collecting everyone can take up to 30 minutes.

  2. Coffee stop

    Borgarnes

About 75 minutes out, the last town before the peninsula.

  3. North coast

    Kirkjufell

20–45 minutes at the waterfall. Most tours do the north coast first.

  4. Lunch

    Ólafsvík

A 45-minute lunch break on the coach tour. Bring food or buy it: only two tours include a meal.

  5. National park

    Djúpalónssandur

30–45 minutes on the black pebble beach. Lóndrangar on some.

  6. South coast

    Arnarstapi

30–60 minutes: cliffs, Gatklettur and the Bárður statue.

  7. Late afternoon

    Búðir & Ytri Tunga

The black church, then the seals. Arctic Adventures skips Ytri Tunga in December and January.

  8. Evening

    Back in Reykjavik

    About 11–12 hours after pickup.

Stop lengths are from the tour listings and vary by operator; weather and daylight can change the order.
